Newsha Tavakolian: Sisters in Chanel and Chador
This Wideyed exhibition, shown for the first time in the UK, captures the faces of Iran that rarely appears in our newspapers. Newsha Tavakolian’s vibrant images shatter the media’s portrayal of Iranian women. She documents the changing role of women in a country where they are empowered to go to university, and now
out-number men. Yet they are obsessed with plastic surgery - there are over three thousand plastic surgeons in Tehran alone.
NEWSHA TAVAKOLIAN, 27, has been working as a photographer with the Iranian press since she was 16. Her pictures have been published in Time Magazine, Newsweek, Stern, The New York Times and Le Figaro.
